One file. One story. Or none.
Consular staff do not score each document in isolation. They ask whether the trip you describe is the trip the papers prove. When the letter says one thing and the itinerary says another, the doubt is not about a missing stamp — it is about whether the file can be trusted.
These five contradictions appear often in files that later fail. None of them requires a fake document. They only require two genuine pages that do not agree.
1. Cover letter dates that do not match the itinerary
The letter names arrival and departure dates. The day-by-day plan uses different ones. Hotel bookings sit on a third calendar. Officers notice. A template letter with cities left over from someone else's trip is the same problem in another form.
2. A purpose of visit the papers do not support
Tourism without a realistic plan. A family visit without relationship evidence. A business trip without meeting proof. The box ticked on the form is not enough; the supporting papers must carry the same purpose.
3. Funding claims that bank records do not match
The letter says you will pay for the trip. The statements show a thin balance or a sudden unexplained credit. Or a sponsor is named in writing while the account history still looks like the applicant's alone. Funding has to be visible in the papers, not only promised in prose. See also why unexplained bank deposits create questions.
4. Employment or leave that clashes with travel dates
An employment letter that does not confirm leave for the travel window. A leave approval that ends before the return flight. A self-employed applicant whose business papers go silent for the period of the trip with no explanation. Work ties and travel dates have to sit on the same calendar.
5. Interview answers that rewrite the written application
At the counter, dates move. The host changes. The funding story shifts. Officers have the file in front of them. An answer that contradicts the cover letter does more damage than a nervous pause. Preparation means practising the truth that is already on the page — not inventing a smoother one.
Why this happens even to careful applicants
People assemble papers over weeks. Bookings change. A relative edits the letter. A downloaded itinerary is never updated. Each change is small. Together they produce a file no single author would have written on purpose.
That is a preparation failure, not a character judgement. It is also fixable before you book the appointment — if someone reads the whole set as the officer will.
